Following years of war\u00a0coupled with extreme drought, South Sudan\u00a0is experiencing\u00a0major\u00a0disruptions in food production and supply resulting in extreme food shortages and malnutrition.\u00a0\u00a0According to USAID \u201cAn estimated 5.5 million people\u2014nearly half of South Sudan\u2019s population\u2014will face life threatening hunger by July [2017].\u201d<\/p>\n

In emergency disaster situations such as famine, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA)\u00a0partners with\u00a0ACT Alliance to help address immediate needs. In South Sudan, PDA is also working with Presbyterian Relief and Development Agency (PRDA) to distribute emergency relief items and food.<\/p>\n

And the Presbyterian Hunger Program (PHP) works to build the capacity of communities to develop systems that ensure food security\u00a0and work to prevent food shortages from happening. PHP is collaborating with partners to promote agricultural techniques for sustainable food, nutrition and income security in South Sudan.<\/p>\n
