One:\u00a0 On this World Refugee Day, we pray for those who have been displaced by war,
\npersecution, human rights abuses, natural disasters, corrupt governments acting
\nwith impunity and other forms of violence and oppression.<\/p>\n

All:\u00a0 You, O LORD, are a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of<\/strong>
\ntrouble.<\/strong>
\nAnd those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have<\/strong>
\nnot forsaken those who seek you.*<\/strong><\/p>\n

One: Today we lift up in particular these places where our connectional church is
\nwitness to the suffering and grief of whole communities uprooted:
\n\u2022 From a 10-year war in Syria,
\n\u2022 Combined crises in Cameroon caused by conflict in the Anglophone
\nregions and incursions by Boko Haram
\n\u2022 the impacts of human rights violations, corruption and natural disasters in
\nHonduras, El Salvador and Guatemala
\n\u2022 the renewed conflict in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia,
\n\u2022 the decades long conflict in the Gedo region of Somalia<\/p>\n

All: We pray for those who live day to day with personal insecurity due to violence.<\/strong>
\nWe grieve the loss of life and livelihoods; the many places where the combined<\/strong>
\nimpacts of human and natural caused disasters have caused the depletion of<\/strong>
\nnatural resources leading to abject poverty and a dependency on international<\/strong>
\naid.<\/strong><\/p>\n

One: We give you thanks, O Lord, for human rights defenders and international
\norganizations working together to hold these governments responsible. We pray
\nfor negotiations to end these conflicts, that the international community can
\nsupport meaningful dialogues that begin with ceasefires and lead to lasting
\npeace. We pray for government, civic and faith leaders to work together for the
\nrestoration of civil and human rights.<\/p>\n

All: We give thanks to Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, Uganda, Kenya and Mexico who are <\/strong>
\namong the countries holding some of the largest and newest refugee <\/strong>
\npopulations. We remember that the vast majority of the world\u2019s refugees are <\/strong>
\nhosted in neighboring countries that refugees are able to reach on foot or by <\/strong>
\nroad. We give thanks for humanitarian organizations and pray that <\/strong>
\ngovernments grant them access so they may provide life-saving assistance.<\/strong><\/p>\n

One: We pray for refugees seeking protection from the United States:
\n\u2022 For the thousands still at the border;
\n\u2022 For those who are living here in limbo waiting for a judge or asylum officer
\nto make a decision about their future;
\n\u2022 For refugees waiting overseas for their resettlement to be approved.<\/p>\n

All: We remember the refugees who have been living here for years, working to <\/strong>
\nrebuild their lives, trusting in this country to be a place where their families can <\/strong>
\nthrive economically, socially and spiritually.<\/strong><\/p>\n

One: We pray that the U.S. Government will live up its promise to restore the US
\nresettlement program. We pray for our President and Members of Congress that
\ntheir hearts may be open to new solutions that invest in welcome with dignity
\nand due process and turn away from reliance on militarization, obstruction and
\nabusive systems.<\/p>\n

We give thanks for people of faith who join in solidarity to expand welcome for
\nrefugees and asylum seekers. We pray for all the groups and congregations that
\ntogether are creating a web of welcome. And we give you thanks, O God, for the
\npresence and perseverance of refugees living her who make us a better nation.<\/p>\n

All: You, O Lord, are a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of <\/strong>
\ntrouble.<\/strong>
\nAnd those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have <\/strong>
\nnot forsaken those who seek you.* Amen<\/strong>
