MARYVILLE, Tenn. — “The Road Ahead” is the theme for the 2019-20 worship series at Maryville College, which will begin on Tues., Aug. 27.
Held every Tuesday from 1:15 p.m. until 1:50 p.m. in the Samuel Tyndale Wilson Center for Campus Ministry (CCM), community worship is open to Maryville College faculty, staff and students, as well as members of the public.
The 2019–20 series will help the campus look forward from the College’s bicentennial year and into the future, said the Rev. Dr. Anne McKee, campus minister.
“Last year, in honor of the College’s bicentennial celebration, we looked back on ‘The Roads We’ve Traveled,” McKee said. “This year, as we move into the next era of the College’s life, with its own transitions of leadership, and into its third century, we contemplate ‘The Road Ahead.’
“College students are always in transition, with different classes each semester, a different housing arrangement each year, sometimes changing majors, and figuring out relationships to friends and family,” McKee continued. “The ‘road ahead’ is not always clear, but they discover it each step of the way. I think we have a lot to learn from each other, and from our traditions, about how to walk courageously and joyfully into the future.”
McKee will introduce the theme in the first chapel service on Aug. 27. Other featured speakers for the fall semester include: Christina Seymour, lecturer in writing communication; Kandis Schram ’85, athletic director and head volleyball coach; the Rev. Lee Moon-Sook, international peacemaker; Dr. Melanie Tucker, vice president and dean of students; Dr. Nancy Locklin-Sofer, professor of history; Vivian Hill, Residence Life office manager; Kristin Gourley, assistant dean of students; Dr. Kathryn Julian, visiting lecturer in history; and Aaron Solomon ’20.
