New president pledges a season of renewal at Presbyterian Pan American School

As a rush of fresh-faced students filed into the Presbyterian Pan American School’s Harte Student Center, Dr. Joey King beamed with pride. And rightfully so. The new president of the small, PC(USA)-related college-preparatory school located in the Texas Coastal Bend some 90 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border, has exciting plans to flourish PPAS’s most valuable resource, its students.

‘I’m happier and it’s crazy how that happens’

This past summer, 1001 New Worshiping Communities ministry kin-dom community hosted its first kin-dom camp for LGBTQIA+ youth ages 12–17 living in Texas and other states in the Synod of the Sun.

‘These kids have had to be brave their whole lives’

During the most recent edition of the Synod of the Sun’s podcast SunSpots, found here, host Thomas Riggs was sharing some favorite kin-dom camp memories with his guest, the Rev. Pepa Paniagua, the director and co-organizer of the week-long camp put on this summer for 58 youth who identify as LGBTQIA+.

On the first full day of kin-dom camp last week, it was evident the impact the camp would have on the 57 campers who identify as LGBTQIA+.

The thread of bondage

‘Get acquainted and get familiar with your intended community’

The Rev. Zoë Garry and the Rev. Ezequiel Herrera operate in different ministry settings. But as they found out during an hour-long conversation last week, which can be heard here, they share at least two traits: both are church planters, and both serve God and new worshiping communities in the Synod of the Sun.
