PC(USA) celebrates 25 years of partnership with the Church of Bangladesh

The Most Rev. Paul S. Sarker, moderator of the Church of Bangladesh and Bishop of the Dhaka Diocese, visited the Presbyterian Center recently to celebrate the first 25 years of formal partnership between the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the Church of Bangladesh (CoB). The visit also provided an opportunity to discern God’s direction for the future of the partnership.

Following God’s detour

One day, while taking a break from studying in the Duke Divinity School library, I got into a conversation that would change the course of my family’s life. As I talked with a stranger, I learned he was the only person in the world with a Ph.D. in New Testament, which is also my field of study, who could speak the particular language of the country where he was training Christians for ministry. This really struck me.

LPTS president Michael Jinkins announces retirement

Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary (LPTS) president, the Rev. Dr. Michael Jinkins, announced his retirement during the seminary’s spring Board of Trustees meeting, which took place Friday, April 28. Jinkins, who began his term as the seminary’s ninth president September 1, 2010, will formally retire September 2, 2018.

Frank Yamada named executive director of ATS

McCormick Theological Seminary President Frank M. Yamada has accepted the position of Executive Director of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) and will begin in that role on July 1. He has announced that he will resign as President of McCormick effective June 30, 2017.

Louisville Seminary’s covenant tuition program now fully endowed

Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary has completed the first phase of its Covenant for the Future strategic plan, which kicked off in 2011. By reaching its goal of $2.4 million for the first phase of the capital campaign, 100 percent tuition assistance for all master’s-level students is now a permanent benefit of attending Louisville Seminary.
