Rather than using critical race theory as a rallying cry for driving people to the polls, the 50-year-old theory ought to be taught as it was originally intended: in law schools.

The favorite and persistent question of children everywhere may exasperate parents, grandparents and caregivers, but it’s an important question, the Rev. Samuel Son told the 450 participants during worship Tuesday at the Synod of Lakes and Prairies’ Synod School.
Three weeks ago, the Rev. Jimmie Hawkins’ 17-year-old daughter announced to her father she wouldn’t be attending seminary.
“Every time I ask you a question,” she told her father the seminary graduate, “you don’t have the answer.”
These days, every organization is coming up with a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion — commonly referred to as DEI — strategic plan. The hiring of diversity and inclusion executives has grown 113% in the last five years. As of February 2021, half of S&P 500 companies have a chief diversity officer. The national agencies of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) are also putting together DEI plans as a response to the General Assembly mandate for a Race Audit in 2018. However, this is not the church jumping on the latest business trend.
For Robert P. Jones, Tuesday’s webinar was a chance to discuss his significant book, “White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity.” And for the faith leaders who appeared with Jones during the event put on by Simmons College of Kentucky and Empower West Louisville, it was a chance to enter into remarkable conversation about the future of an inclusive church — if only it will proclaim the authentic gospel of Jesus Christ.
