Friday’s evening plenary at the 2024 Churchwide Gathering of Presbyterian Women in St. Louis included a dance and a discussion of the upcoming 2025-26 PW/Horizons Bible Study, “Finding Resilience, Joy and Identity in Jesus Christ.”
The theme for the 2022 Celebrate the Gifts of Women Sunday is “And a Sword Will Pierce Your Own Soul.” The theme reflects on the circumstances of Jesus’ birth and childhood, focusing especially on young Mary, who heard Simeon’s prophetic words about the opposition Jesus would endure and that Mary would also feel.
The Rev. Dr. Irvin (Irv) Moxley, the second African American student to graduate from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, died on Oct. 26 at the age of 87.

Thaye Ann Richards Kearns, an early childhood education specialist credited with improving the lives of hundreds of children throughout her career, died June 25 at age 74.
After serving the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) for more than 26 years, the Rev. Dr. Rhashell D. Hunter has announced her plan to leave the Presbyterian Mission Agency (PMA). Hunter has served as the Director of the PMA’s Racial Equity & Women’s Intercultural Ministries (RE&WIM) for the last 14 years. She will leave at the end of April.
Headed into next week’s Presbyterian Mission Agency Board meeting on Jan. 22, the board’s Coordinating Committee met Wednesday to learn more about a plan to better align the agency to more effectively bring about the Matthew 25 invitation with its three foci: building congregational vitality, dismantling structural racism and eradicating systemic poverty.
