After the commercialized rush that is Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday offers Presbyterians and other people of faith the opportunity to bear witness to the spirit of gratitude as we move into the Season of Advent and celebrate the coming of Christ. Presbyterian Mission Agency (PMA) President and Executive Director the Rev. Dr. Diane Moffett thanks people in advance for their generous gifts to #GivingTuesday.
The Committee on Mission Responsibility through Investment of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has submitted comments to the Environmental Protection Agency, opposing a plan by the Trump administration to roll back methane gas restrictions on the oil and natural gas industry.
In mid-August, a video crew supported by Blessed Tomorrow, a Presbyterian Hunger Program partner, filmed chapel service at the Presbyterian Center in Louisville. Portions of the service, as well as an interview with the Rev. Dr. Diane Moffett, Presbyterian Mission Agency president and executive director, are featured in a new climate action video, “Jesus Calls Us.”
A complete revamping of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s two main websites as they merge into one site, at http://www.pcusa.org, will take about two years and will come about only with significant input from the Presbyterians who use them.
The Presbyterian Mission Agency board meeting started Friday morning with a short worship service that took participants back to 1619. But for her talk, “A Conversation on Racism and Matthew 25,” the Rev. Denise Anderson brought up some slightly more recent history — 2016.
“It’s time to go,” the Rev. CeCe Armstrong told the thousands of people gathered for closing worship Saturday at Presbyterian Youth Triennium. “We often forget that mission starts at home — your own house or your own church. We’ve experienced things here, but if we don’t take them back, the church doesn’t change but you have. Hallelujah!”
Faith leaders including the Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson, II, Stated Clerk of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and the Rev. Jimmie Hawkins, director of the Office of Public Witness, say that diplomacy and not warfare is the nation’s best policy toward Iran.
