The Rev. Tony Larson, who serves Trinity Presbyterian Church of Southside Beach, South Carolina, and is co-moderator of the 226th General Assembly, opened last month’s webinar hosted by Presbyterians for Earth Care on how the Inflation Reduction Act can benefit churches and other nonprofits with a prayer.
The numbers are kind of eye-popping.
A total of 207 solar panels installed over four phases in as many years
They generate 64.575 kilowatts of power
364 megawatt-hours of energy annually
That offsets 70.33 tons of carbon or 1624 trees.
One was a former school administrator who had instituted energy-saving measures at schools he oversaw and brought that same passion to his work with the church. Another was concerned with climate change and felt that collective action was necessary to reverse the damaging effects of relying on fossil fuels.
Each member of Spencer Presbyterian Church in Spencer, West Virginia had their own reasons for wanting to put solar panels on the church.
