The much-anticipated report from the Governance Task Force (GTF) of the Presbyterian Mission Agency Board (PMAB) of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) came up for discussion and debate during today’s open plenary of the group’s February meeting.
Sparked by the belief that the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) can be a place for vibrant theological discussion, spiritual growth and evangelistic courage, the renewal group NEXT Church has been fostering conversations since 2010.
The Justice Department’s recent decision to end the use of private prisons is welcome news to the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), which has argued against the use of these facilities for more than a dozen years. The department made the announcement after concluding private prisons were not as safe or effective as those run by the government.
