Presbyterians for Earth Care offers up a webinar on sustainable transportation

Scott Minos, who heads up the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Saver initiative and works in DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, made the case during a Presbyterians for Earth Care webinar last week that sustainable transportation is an important way to care for the planet.

Grants offsetting carbon emissions will support climate-friendly projects

Climate change will become a focus of the Matthew 25 invitation in 2022 and in support, global partners and ministry areas in the Presbyterian Mission Agency have created the Presbyterian Tree Fund to receive carbon offset donations that’ll be used for grants that support tree planting and other climate- friendly projects.

Last year, I took more than two dozen flights. In many cases I could have taken a bus, but for little extra cost, I opted to save time. A flight from Lima (on the Pacific coast) to Tarapoto (in the Amazon) takes a little over an hour. The bus takes more than 25 hours. So, for about $25 more per flight, it seems worth it to travel by air. I know my knees are grateful. But, like so many things in life, there are usually more costs than those that simply make a dent in our wallets. There are environmental costs, too.
