Building a culture of philanthropy

The history of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is deep, and the Presbyterian Historical Society has a devoted staff of archivists, communicators, administrators, and fundraisers to ensure its collections are cared for and accessible. In this video, Luci Duckson-Bramble, director of development, shares how her work opens opportunities for Presbyterians and the public to step back in time to learn about the past and the future.

These three days

Maundy Thursday was the start of what is known as the Easter Triduum — triduum, which is Latin for “three days.” Three days, which include Good Friday and Holy Saturday, in which before we get to the joy of the resurrection, we are reminded how quick we are to betray, to cry “crucify him” and to sink into the depths of despair when we are left in the limbo of loss.

New Castle Presbytery sponsors life-changing field trip for young adults in Guatemala

In November, seven Guatemalan young adults embarked on a four-day adventure that will have a lasting impact on their lives. I had the privilege of accompanying the group, alongside Pastors Emerson Morales and Mardoqueo Perez of Jesus es El Camino church in Guatemala City. The Guatemala Partnership of New Castle Presbytery funded this trip.

APCE Annual Event workshop resonates with the experience of seasoned church educators

Anne Wilson, a longtime Christian educator who lives in Houston, led a workshop featuring a panel of fellow faith formation enthusiasts titled “Fresh Elastic for Stretched-Out Educators” during the recent APCE Annual Event held online and in St. Louis. Panelists included Priscilla Andre-Colton, a certified Christian educator; the Rev. Dr. Von Clemans, a retired pastor and educator; Debbie Hogue, a certified Christian educator; and Linda LeBron of Decatur, Georgia, an educator who joined via Zoom.

World Water Day: Water for life or water for death?

The Bible has a surprisingly large number of references to water. One concordance had 300 water references. From Noah’s Ark and the destructive flood to Isaiah’s well-watered garden and an ever-flowing spring, the role of water is myriad. Water as everlasting life and water as the bringer of death, the Bible has it all!

APCE Annual Event includes an animal-themed workshop

Thom Cunningham, whom APCE recently honored as its ENRICH Educator of the Year, led a workshop during APCE’s Annual Event he called “Elephants, Ostriches and Cows — Oh My!”
