Presbyterians are celebrating another significant victory for migrant workers’ justice, as the ice cream company Ben & Jerry’s has agreed to sign on to the Milk with Dignity Program , a campaign to improve conditions for migrant workers in the dairy industry.
The Presbyterian Hunger Program has a long history of advocating for farmworkers that supply vegetables for restaurants and grocery chains. Now the ministry is hoping to see success for dairy farmworkers.
In a public letter to the CEO of Ben & Jerry’s, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) General Assembly Stated Clerk J. Herbert Nelson II has implored Jostein Solheim to honor his commitment and sign on to the Milk With Dignity program so changes may take place in the dairy industry in Vermont.
