McCormick Theological Seminary announces that Lejia (Jia) Johnson has accepted the newly created position as McCormick’s project director for Theological Studies at Cook County Department of Corrections.
The Rev. Dr. Joyce Cummings Tucker, a Presbyterian pastor, author, and prominent leader in theological education, died Friday, July 12, in New York City following a short illness. She lived in Princeton, N.J.
At its annual meeting last month, the McCormick Theological Seminary Board of Trustees elected Connie Lindsey of Chicago as Chair. According to a seminary news release, she is Executive Vice President and Head of Corporate Social Responsibility and Global Diversity and Inclusion at the Northern Trust. She succeeds Peter J. Cochrane of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis. The Board also elected the Rev. Erica Y. Liu, co-pastor of Pres House in Madison, Wis., as Vice Chair.

That’s how the Rev. Dr. Diane Moffett, president and executive director of the Presbyterian Mission Agency, remembered the Rev. Dr. Leon Fanniel, who died last month at age 88 and was remembered last week at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles. Both Moffett and the Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson, II, Stated Clerk of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), attended Fanniel’s service of witness to the resurrection.
Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Ga., has announced that author, scholar and renowned preacher Dr. Frank A. Thomas, the Nettie Sweeney and Hugh Th. Miller Professor of Homiletics at Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, will be the 2019 Smyth lecturer.

Crawford, who had served as interim president, was the Board of Trustees’ unanimous choice to serve as the seminary’s 11th president.
