Eleven outstanding women have been selected to receive scholarships in memory of renowned Presbyterian scholar and pioneer the Rev. Dr. Katie Geneva Cannon.

Presbyterian Voices for Justice celebrates its history as it donates to three social justice causes

As the writer says in Ecclesiastes, “to everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.” “A consideration of stewardship of resources has led to the decision for Presbyterian Voices for Justice to celebrate its history by donating its financial resources to three social justice causes,” said the Rev. Bear Ride, a board member. “We are delighted to be giving a donation of $9,431.35 to each of these: Presbyterian Peace Fellowship, the Office of Public Witness of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and to the Rev. Dr. Katie Geneva Cannon Scholarship Fund.”

Presbyterians invited to join the Thursdays in Black observance

According to UN Women, the United Nations entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women, it’s estimated that 35% of women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or sexual violence by a non-partner (not including sexual harassment) at some point in their lives. Some national studies show that up to 70% of women have experienced physical and/or sexual violence from an intimate partner in their lifetime.
