‘For the love of basketball and faith’

Over 2,000 miles from the mountains of Oaxaca, Mexico, a community of Indigenous immigrants gathers for community through sports. During a scroll on Facebook, Antonio Colón saw a group needing access to a playground and basketball court, and as the adage goes, the rest is history. 

Celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day

Traditionally, on the second Monday of October the United States celebrates the anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ arrival in the Americas on October 12, 1492. However, on Monday many communities across the nation celebrated Indigenous Peoples Day rather than Columbus Day. Indigenous Peoples Day is part of a growing movement to end the celebration of the Italian explorer and rather honor and recognize Indigenous people, the original occupants of the Americas.

Presbyterians celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month

From Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 the United States celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month. During this period the country recognizes and honors the rich history and contributions made by Hispanic and Latino-a Americans.  Hispanics/Latino-a are the largest people of color group in the United States and the third-largest people of color group in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
