Last month the Rev. Dr. Elizabeth E. Coleman, pastor of the Northwest Presbyterian Church in St. Petersburg, Florida, attended the annual Black Theology and Leadership Institute (BTLI) hosted by Princeton Theological Seminary. Coleman’s attendance was possible thanks to a woman’s leadership development grant from the Women’s Leadership Development and Young Women’s Ministries, part of Racial Equity & Women’s Intercultural Ministries (RE&WIM). Funds for the grant were raised through #Give8/28 during the 2020 Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Week of Action.
St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church in Beachwood, Ohio, was recently awarded a woman’s leadership development grant from the Women’s Leadership Development and Young Women’s Ministries, part of Racial Equity & Women’s Intercultural Ministries, because of funds raised through #Give8/28 during the 2020 Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Week of Action.
As the Bearing Witness team prepares for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Week of Action, August 23-29, efforts to ensure that Racial Equity & Women’s Intercultural Ministries (RE&WIM) can continue to develop leaders of color within the denomination are well under way.
Excitement is building for this year’s Presbyterian Week of Action, which takes place Aug. 23-29. It will lift up not only Black Lives Matter but other marginalized groups, such as Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, who have been the target of hatred and discrimination.
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has announced plans for the 2021 #Give828 campaign to benefit the Racial Equity & Women’s Intercultural Ministries (RE&WIM). The official kickoff of the campaign will be June 16 in conjunction with the celebration of Juneteenth and will be a part of the Presbyterian Week of Action, which will take place in August.
As civil rights activists gathered in Washington, D.C., on Friday for the 57th anniversary of the historic March on Washington, Americans were reminded of the day’s significance. It was on August 28, 1963, when the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his iconic “I Have A Dream” speech during that landmark event.
