Columbia Seminary preaching professor explores both Bible testaments from A through Z

In the tradition of beloved writers including Frederick Buechner, the Rev. Dr. Anna Carter Florence has written “A is for Alabaster: 52 Reflections on the Stories of Scriptures,” recently published by Westminster John Knox Press. Carter Florence, the Peter Marshall Professor of Preaching at Columbia Theological Seminary, appeared alongside the Rev. Dr. Lee Hinson-Hasty of the Presbyterian Foundation on his show, “Leading Theologically.”

Frederick Buechner, a Presbyterian pastor and a prolific and well-loved author, died Aug. 15 in Rupert, Vermont, at age 96.

New book celebrates 90-year legacy of Frederick Buechner

Frederick Buechner turns 90 this Monday, July 11, and his friends and admirers have turned out a compiled volume of work in honor of the beloved writer and public theologian. Curated by author Anne Lamott, Buechner 101 samples his essays, sermons, and excerpts from memoirs and novels. The book also features homages by devotees such as Lamott, Barbara Brown Taylor and Brian McLaren.
