As Stewardship Kaleidoscope 2024 opened in Portland, Oregon Sept. 23, attendees had probably seen the “Keep Portland Weird” slogan in several places. The annual conference is presented by the Presbyterian Church (USA) and Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

The Welcome Church in Philadelphia, a church without walls, is served by an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America pastor and by the Rev. Schaunel Steinnagel, a Minister of Word and Sacrament with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the associate pastor of The Welcome Church. It’s recognized as a community ministry by the Presbytery of Philadelphia and is a congregation under development in the ELCA’s Synod of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Five days with four topics revolving around “Togetherness” marks the re-emergence of the Together on the Way conference sponsored by the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren (ECCB) and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Scheduled for July 9-13 in the community of Olomouc, a city in Moravia in the eastern part of the Czech Republic, the conference is extending invitations to participants from U.S. congregations, including young adults, to join guests from the Church of Scotland and Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to share faith practices, prayer and song — all while exploring the life of the church in the Czech Republic.
Things are different at DOWNTOWN CHURCH in — you guessed it — downtown Columbia, South Carolina.
The church is located in a former energy facility for the State Hospital, and it features an open floorplan, stained concrete floors, large rolling garage doors and no branding of the church on the brick exterior.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to stewardship or generosity.
In a rich conversation about unleashing generosity in culturally specific ways, the Rev. Lucille “CeCee” Mills challenged pastors and church leaders during her workshop at Stewardship Kaleidoscope, an annual conference focused on stewardship, generosity and finances for churches. It was held both virtually and in person in Savannah, Georgia, Sept. 26-28.
