Presbytery and synod moderators and moderators-elect from around the country are at the Presbyterian Center in Louisville, Kentucky and online Friday and Saturday for the annual Moderators’ Conference, which commenced with thoughtful and winsome worship led by the co-moderators of the 226th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the Rev. Tony Larson and the Rev. CeCe Armstrong.

Dr. Charles Halton, winner of the 2024 Grawemeyer Award in Religion for his book “A Human Shaped-God: Theology of an Embodied God,” published in 2021 by Westminster John Knox Press, delivered an insightful and inspiring talk Tuesday in Caldwell Chapel at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Does being non-white and non-Christian make one less American? Dr. Duncan Ryūken Williams answered that question in a book it took him 17 years to complete, “American Sutra: A Story of Faith and Freedom in the Second World War,” his 2019 work that won him the 2022 Grawemeyer Award in Religion. Williams delivered his Grawemeyer lecture Tuesday in Caldwell Chapel at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, which along with the University of Louisville awarded Williams this year’s prize.
