The National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA strongly opposes the Supreme Court’s recent decision in City of Grants Pass, Oregon v. Johnson, which allows the enforcement of laws regulating camping on public property and has significant implications for homeless individuals across the nation.
Gathered in person for the first time since 2019, Ecumenical Advocacy Days’ 2024 Spring Summit got off to an inspired start Friday courtesy of the Rev. Teresa “Terri” Hord Owens, General Minister and President of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada.
The Governing Board of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA (NCC) is pleased to announce that Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie has been elected to serve as President and General Secretary of the ecumenical organization. She is the first African American woman to serve as both President and General Secretary of the organization.
Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie opened Ecumenical Advocacy Days on Tuesday with a rousing sermon in which the biblical story of Jesus feeding the 5,000 became a rallying cry to be courageous, persistent and compassionate in a world where it often seems there aren’t enough resources to go around.
Ecumenical Advocacy Days is just a few weeks away, but there’s still time to register for the annual conference, which will focus on bringing about a more peaceful world.
