During Trans Awareness Week, ACQ+E, the Advocacy Committee for LGBTQIA+ Equity, an advocacy committee for the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), recognizes our trans and gender non-binary parishioners, clergy, educators, chaplains and friends. We see you and, during these difficult times, we stand with you in accordance with the teachings of our church.
As the PC(USA)’s 226th General Assembly approaches next month, a change.org petition ignited much social media chatter this week as 26 teaching elders began a dissent to challenge Part B of POL-01, commonly known as the “Olympia Overture” as it’s sponsored by Olympia Presbytery. Nearly four dozen more pastors have since signed the petition.
Following this month’s action by United Methodist Church delegates to repeal their church’s longstanding ban on LGBTQ clergy, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s LGBTQIA+ Equity Advocacy Committee, known as ACQ+E, issued this statement:
