Columbia Seminary announces Walker Presidential Scholarship

DECATUR, Ga. — Columbia Theological Seminary says it’s committed to providing an accessible, affordable theological education that is both academically rigorous and spiritually transformative. Scholarships are an essential part of this commitment. Financial aid awards include scholarships, grants, and tuition waivers that are awarded based on both merit and need.
According to a seminary news release, Columbia Seminary continues to deepen its commitment to providing an affordable theological education by working with strategic partners to create new scholarship opportunities for students. This fall, the seminary announces once again the creation of the Rev. Dr. Thomas W. & Jan C. Walker Presidential Scholarship. The Walker Presidential Scholarship will be awarded to Master of Divinity students from the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) who show outstanding promise for pastoral ministry. The award will cover the full cost of attendance (tuition + fees) and provide each recipient with a $5,000 living stipend.

Full-Tuition Awards:
The Columbia Scholarship covers full tuition, a single living unit and the full meal plan. Full-time enrollment is required, and each recipient must maintain a 3.50 GPA over the course of the degree program.
The Honors Scholarship covers the full cost of tuition and is awarded to a full-time student who must maintain a 3.3 GPA.

The Walker Presidential Scholarship was made possible by an endowment gift from an anonymous donor in honor of the life of Christian ministry and service by the Rev. Dr. Tom W. & Mrs. Jan C. Walker of Palms Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Columbia Theological Seminary was formative in Tom’s pastoral leadership and this endowed award will provide permanent recognition of the Walkers’ ministry and will continue to support the development of future ministerial leaders at Columbia Theological Seminary.

Renwick called as chaplain of Union Seminary Richmond campus

RICHMOND, Va. — The Rev. Mairi Renwick (M.Div. ’11), a fifth-generation ordained Presbyterian pastor, has accepted a call to be chaplain of Union Presbyterian Seminary’s Richmond campus where she grew up, returned as a student and recently served as director of admissions.
“I am excited about taking this new call,” said Renwick, according to a seminary news release. “Much of my job in admissions was to simply listen to the call stories of potential students. As chaplain, I will continue to listen and support our current students who are still seeking and discerning where God is calling them.”
In her new role, she said she hopes to find ways Union can continue to spiritually nurture and feed students’ souls inside and outside the classroom.
Among her goals is to develop relationships with local community organizing groups and nonprofits and discover ways they can support each other.
Renwick received her Master of Divinity degree from Union in 2011. She completed a clinical pastoral education residency at Emory University Hospital and was a staff chaplain at University of Kentucky hospital. She also was a program manager for Blessed Earth, a nonprofit that focused on Sabbath and taking care of Creation. Renwick holds a Bachelor of Arts in history from Presbyterian College.
