LOUISVILLE — Volunteers working with Presbyterians for Earth Care have published an online Advent daily devotional guide from perspectives related to Creation care.

According to the Rev. Bruce Gillette, PEC moderator, the hope is that the free Advent 2021 Daily Devotional, available here and here, “will help preachers, lectionary Bible study groups, families and individuals with new insights on these beloved texts during this special season.”

“Our goal,” Gillette said, “is that the devotions will inspire more people to help care for God’s Creation in these challenging times.”

Readings is based on the Sunday Revised Common Lectionary readings, available here.

Contributors include Dr. Bill Brown of Columbia Theological Seminary, the Rev. Rebecca Barnes and Jessica Maudlin Phelps of the Presbyterian Hunger Program, hymn writer the Rev. Carolyn Winfrey Gillette and activist and scholar the Rev. abby mohaupt. Other gifted pastors and inspiring activists have also contributed to the resource, Gillette said.

“The hope is that as we make the connections between the Bible, the environment, the climate crisis and Creation care, people will be inspired to pray, study and actively work for a better world,” Gillette said. The August report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the COP26 meeting in November “make clear that we need to do more, quickly,” Gillette said.
