Flyaway Books offers inclusive and imaginative books for children

Presbyterian Publishing Corporation release

LOUISVILLE — Presbyterian Publishing Corporation (PPC) is excited to announce the launch of Flyaway Books, a new children’s book imprint dedicated to creating titles to inspire the next generation to fly. The new imprint will offer books that carry themes of diversity, inclusion, self-esteem, kindness, compassion and care for our world. Many of the books will help children understand today’s most pressing social issues and the titles will be intentionally multicultural in their artwork and characters.

Several children’s books recently released under PPC’s acclaimed Westminster John Knox Press imprint will join the program, including Who Counts? 100 Sheep, 10 Coins, and 2 Sons by Amy-Jill Levine and Sandy Eisenberg Sasso, which was a 2017 Junior Library Guild Pick, and No One Else like You by Siska Goeminne, which was featured in The New York Times Sunday Book Review. The first two books to carry the new Flyaway Books logo will be released May 2018. They will be Simon and the Big, Bad, Angry Beasts by Ian De Haes and The Marvelous Mustard Seed by Amy-Jill Levine and Sandy Eisenberg Sasso.

Future authors for Flyaway Books include children’s book legend Katherine Paterson, bestselling children’s book authors Sandy Eisenberg Sasso and Kathy Bostrom, renowned preacher and author Barbara Brown Taylor, noted New Testament scholar Amy-Jill Levine, the African Methodist Episcopal Church pastor and activist Michael Waters, and author and illustrator Katie Yamasaki.

“In children’s literature there has been, for years, a noticeable lack of books that represent the diversity of our society. Flyaway Books answers this need with high-quality picture books that allow all children to see themselves within the pages,” said David Dobson, Editorial Director of Flyaway Books. “We believe our books will help children become kinder and more caring as they build the foundation for how they view themselves and their place in the world.”
