The former college president and entrepreneur is excited to grow advancement and enrollment at the Christian college prep school in Kingsville, Texas

KINGSVLILLE, Texas — The Board of Trustees of Presbyterian Pan American School is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. W. Joseph “Joey” King as the new President of the School. King brings a wealth of experience and a distinguished track record in education, technology integration, strategy, and leadership to his new role.
King previously served as the president of Lyon College, where he was instrumental in fostering academic excellence and strategic growth. His commitment to innovation was evident during his tenure as senior advisor to the president of Emory & Henry College and as executive director of the National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education. In this latter role, he helped nearly 140 liberal arts colleges across the country enhance their teaching methods and integrate technology more effectively.
In his role as vice president of innovation at Southwestern University, King focused on identifying and leveraging strategic opportunities to advance the institution’s mission. At Rice University, he led Connexions, the pioneering open education initiative, which set the standard for large-scale educational resource sharing and the free textbook movement.
King’s expertise extends beyond academia. He co-authored two influential books on higher education leadership that have received acclaim from publications including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Inside Higher Ed, and Oxford Magazine.
An accomplished entrepreneur and research scientist, King has held key positions in the tech industry, including president of Zama Networks and chief scientist of F5 Networks. He has served as entrepreneur-in-residence at Tech Fort Worth and conducted significant research at the Human Interface Technology Laboratory at the University of Washington, the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute, and Hughes Research Laboratories.
King’s commitment to the broader academic and cultural community is demonstrated by his service on numerous boards and advisory councils, including the Council on Library and Information Resources, Stanford University Libraries, and the Theodore Roosevelt Center. His previous board memberships include Southwestern University, Lyon College, Rice University Press, Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, Teachers Without Borders, Benaroya Research Institute, and the Pacific Northwest Ballet.
King holds a Ph.D. in human-computer interaction from the University of Washington and a B.A. with honors in computer science and experimental psychology from Southwestern University.

Presbyterian Pan American School invites the public to welcome King to the Kingsville community. His leadership, vision, and dedication to education will undoubtedly guide the school to new heights. King will begin his tenure with the school on Thursday. He and his wife Leigh, along with their two standard poodles, will be in residence in September.
