JEFFERSONVILLE, Indiana — Troy Marables, vice president of Human Resources for the Presbyterian Foundation, recently earned his Certified Professional designation from the Society for Human Resource Management.

SHRM credentials provide reliable indicators to the global business community that the credential holder has the necessary capabilities in both aspects of HR practice (competencies and knowledge) that are required for effective job performance. The certification process involves intensive study of human resources related topics, relevant research and up-to-date information about employment, all organized by SHRM, the leading provider of certifications for human resource professionals. To receive the certification, participants must pass a rigorous four-hour exam.

“This certification is affirmation of the excellent work that Troy has brought to his position here at the Foundation,” said the Rev. Dr. Tom Taylor, president and CEO of the Presbyterian Foundation. “Troy has stepped into this role and has met every challenge that has come his way. We’re proud to have him as a senior leader here at the Foundation.”

During the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021, Marables has interviewed more than 130 people for jobs at the Foundation and hired 20. Of the Foundation’s 12 members of senior staff, six were hired since 2018 as part of the Foundation’s succession plan.

“Troy has done an outstanding job helping us meet our employment needs, even in the midst of this pandemic, and has helped lead our efforts to transition employees to a work-from-home situation and back into a hybrid work environment,” Taylor said. “I’m so grateful for all he has done, particularly in the past 18 months, to help us become the best organization we can be in the service to the Presbyterian Church and to Christ.”

Marables joined the Presbyterian Foundation in 1997 as a client services representative. He was promoted to manager of Client Services in 1998. He also obtained his Series 6 & 63 license and became a registered representative for the New Covenant Funds family of mutual funds. In 2015, he was promoted to the position of trust administrator and Client Services manager for the New Covenant Trust Company.

In 2018, he was promoted to assistant director of Human Resources, where he worked closely with the former director until she retired in September 2018. Marables was promoted to vice president and director of Human Resources in October 2018, where he now leads the delivery of Human Resource services to the Foundation, including policy development, staffing, employee relations, compensation, payroll, benefits administration HRIS systems and organizational and employee development.

In addition, he works closely with the property manager to secure and maintain the Foundation’s building and grounds.

Marables has more than 23 years of experience at the Foundation and with New Covenant Trust Company. He previously worked for PNC Bank and PNC Mortgage. He studied Business Administration at Florida A&M University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership & Learning (Magna Cum Laude) from the University of Louisville.

“I am grateful for all of the opportunities I have had here at the Foundation,” Marables said. “Since I joined more than 23 years ago, I’ve worked in a variety of roles that have given me insight into the depth and breadth of the work that we do, which has been very valuable experience as I seek to identify talent for the organization. As HR director for both the Presbyterian Foundation and the New Covenant Trust Company, my role is that of an HR business partner, focused on the mission, goals, and overall strategies of both organizations.  I work closely with the Boards and C-suites of both organizations to assist with the implementation of strategic initiatives involving human capital. There’s no greater joy than extending an offer to a candidate, knowing that they’ll have the same opportunities I have had to learn and grow.”
