‘Locked in a Box’ festival feature part of a busy season for PDA Story Ministry, including ‘Flint’ release

LOUISVILLE — While “Flint: The Poisoning of an American City” is the title du jour for Presbyterian Disaster Assistance’s Story Ministry, other films in its catalog continue to get recognition, including an auspicious booking, this month.
“Locked in a Box,” a 2016 short film on immigration detention, has been tapped as an opening-night selection at the 2019 Indie & Foreign Film Festival presented Oct. 17 to 19 in New York City.

The film “traces the lives of individuals who fled their homelands in search of safety and freedom only to end up in U.S. prisons under a mandatory bed quota system run by Immigration Customs & Enforcement (ICE),” according to its web page. It continues, “’Locked in a Box’ helps strip away the political rhetoric to see the human cost of detention.”
The festival booking follows good news for another title in the Story Ministry catalog. “Trigger: The Ripple Effect of Gun Violence” was picked up for distribution on Amazon Prime this summer, making the film accessible for free to anyone with an Amazon Prime account.
Meanwhile, “Flint,” from director David Barnhart and producer and editor Scott Lansing, is heading into a big week, following its world premiere last month in Flint, Michigan. The film will have its Baltimore premiere Monday night at the Charles Theatre in a screening co-hosted by U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Maryland, who is featured prominently in the film. It then goes on to premieres in Atlanta (Oct. 10), Los Angeles (Oct. 12) and New York (Oct. 16), the night before the Indie & Foreign Film Festival opening.
