LOUISVILLE – The staff at the Presbyterian Center gathered today during a lunchtime carnival for fellowship with one another and to celebrate their work on behalf of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) This was the first all-staff carnival since 2009.

Under sunny skies and unusually moderate August temperatures for Louisville in the 70s, staff from the Presbyterian Mission Agency (PMA), the Office of the General Assembly, the Presbyterian Investment and Loan Program and the Presbyterian Publishing Corporation — all housed at the Presbyterian Center at 100 Witherspoon St. — joined together to celebrate the work of the Church.

A variety of carnival games including coin toss, balloon darts, basketball and ring toss — not to mention the dunk tank complete with Tony De La Rosa, interim executive director of the PMA, taking a turn on the dunking seat — garnered prize tickets for participants to be drawn for gift cards supplied by the Center’s shared Human Resources department.

Local restaurant Mission BBQ served a southern-style barbecue buffet as music filled the lawn in front of the Presbyterian Center, inviting line dancing and providing a relaxing lunch break for employees. A dog rescue agency delivered a dozen puppies, all ready for adoption, for staff members to hold and ponder adding to their families.

“I think of what this says to our neighbors,” said Paul Seebeck, mission communicator for Theology, Formation & Evangelism. “It’s a public statement to the area — the staff at Humana and other employers around us — that we’re not just a church locked up in a big box next to them.”
