Montreat Conference Center announces summer worship series lineup

The series, available both in person and online, begins on Sunday, June 2, and runs each Sunday through Aug. 4

One of the highlights of Montreat Conference Center’s year-round programs is the summer worship series in which leading preachers from across the country join with visual artists, musicians, singers, and volunteers in a service of worship open to the surrounding community. All are welcome and all are invited.

Each Sunday worship service throughout the summer is planned by Montreat Conference Center’s worship committee, which includes the leadership of the Rev. Carol Steele, vice president for program; the Rev. Dr. Ann Laird Jones, arts ministry director; Hannah Garrity, summer liturgical artist; and Eric Wall, conference center musician, among others.

The full lineup of preachers for the 2024 summer season includes:

June 2 — The Rev. Dr. Brian K. Blount| President Emeritus, Union Presbyterian Seminary, Richmond, Virginia

June 9 — The Rev. Margaret LaMotte Torrence| Transitional Pastor, Warren Wilson Presbyterian Church, Swannanoa, North Carolina

June 16 — The Rev. Dr. Robert W. Henderson | Senior Pastor, Covenant Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, North Carolina

June 23 — The Rev. Laura Smith Conrad | Pastor, Fort Hill Presbyterian Church, Clemson, South Carolina

June 30 – The Rev. Dr. David A. Renwick | Retired Pastor, National Presbyterian Church, Washington, D.C.

July 7 – The Rev. Jason R. Ferris | Pastor, Old Pine Street Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

July 14 — The Rev. Rebekah Abel Lamar| Senior Pastor, Government Street Presbyterian Church, Mobile, Alabama

July 21 — The Rev. Dr. José R. Irizarry | President, Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Austin, Texas

July 28 — The Rev. Dr. Chris Currie | Senior Pastor, St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church, New Orleans, Louisiana

August 4 — The Rev. Yena Hwang| Interim Minister, Falls Church Presbyterian Church, Falls Church, Virginia.

All summer Sunday services in the series begin at 10:30 a.m. in Anderson Auditorium, located at 302 Lookout Road in Montreat, North Carolina. Childcare is available for children six months through kindergarten at the Updike Childcare Center on Texas Road.

The entire worship service will be livestreamed and recorded. Podcasts are available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitchr, and online at this link by the Tuesday afternoon after Sunday worship.
