Montreat Conference Center announces summer worship series lineup

A committee has lined up an inspiring corps of preachers

LOUISVILLE — One of the highlights of Montreat Conference Center’s year-round programs is the summer worship series in which leading preachers from across the country join with visual artists, musicians, and volunteers in a service of worship open to the surrounding community. All are welcome and all are invited.

Each Sunday worship service throughout the summer is planned by Montreat Conference Center’s worship committee, which includes the leadership of the Rev. Carol Steele, vice president for program; the Rev. Dr. Ann Laird Jones, arts ministry director; Hannah Garrity, summer liturgical artist; Eric Wall, conference center musician; and the Rev. Keith Grogg, pastor of Montreat Presbyterian Church, among others.

The full lineup of preachers for the 2022 summer season includes:

June 5 — Dr. Jerry Root, Wheaton College Professor Emeritus, Wheaton, Illinois

June 12 — Dr. Jonathan Lee Walton, Dean, Wake Forest University School of Divinity, Winston-Salem, North Carolina

June 19 — The Rev. Pen Peery, senior pastor, First Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, North Carolina

June 26 — The Rev. Dr. Scott Black Johnston, senior pastor, Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, New York, New York

July 3 — The Rev. Dr. Brandi Casto-Waters, Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, Augusta, Georgia

July 10 — The Rev. Dr. Byron A. Wade, general presbyter, Presbytery of Western North Carolina, Morganton, North Carolina

July 17 — The Rev. Dr. Bridgett Green, vice president for Publishing, Presbyterian Publishing Corporation, Louisville, Kentucky

July 24 — The Rev. Dr. Jill Duffield, pastor, First Presbyterian Church, Greensboro, North Carolina

July 31 — The Rev. Dr. Frank Clark Spencer, president, the Board of Pensions of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

August 7 — The Rev. Dr. Anna Carter Florence, Peter Marshall Professor of Preaching, Columbia Theological Seminary, Decatur, Georgia.

All of the summer Sunday services in the series begin at 10:30 a.m. Eastern Time in Anderson Auditorium, just off Assembly Drive in Montreat. Childcare is available for children six months through kindergarten at the Updike Child Care Center on Texas Road.
