LOUISVILLE — An array of Lenten resources designed to help congregations, mid councils and individuals mark Jesus’ journey to the cross and, just days later, his victory over the grave, have been gathered into one place on the website of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
By clicking here, Presbyterians and others can lay their hands on a number of worship and other resources related to Lent, which begins with Ash Wednesday on Feb. 26 and ends on Easter Sunday, April 12.
Worship resources include a brief essay on the paschal mystery, an Ash Wednesday service, daily prayer during Holy Week and a “Tread Lightly for Lent” reflection-action calendar, which was created by the Presbyterian Hunger Program.
The “Becoming a Beloved Community: A Matthew 25 Journey to the Cross” devotional published by Presbyterians Today is available for download, as is the Bible study “Called to Repair the Breach,” a One Great Hour of Sharing resource.
Presbyterians Today’s Matthew 25 devotional is also available for download in Spanish, Korean, Chinese and Indonesian.
One Great Hour of Sharing also has Lenten worship resources, a Lenten lesson plan for younger children and one for older children.
The Presbyterian Foundation has a lectionary preview written by the Rev. Dr. Neal Presa, former moderator of the General Assembly who’s also the vice chairman of the Foundation Board of Trustees.
Ideas! Magazine has an article titled “Talking with Children about Lent and Easter.” The Office of Theology and Worship developed prayers for Lent.
Unbound, an interactive journal on social justice, and More Light Presbyterians have combined to publish a Queer Lenten Devotional. Find it here.
The 2020 Lent Resource Guide is a seven-page document highlighting books for sale through the PC(USA) store, downloadable Lenten studies for adults and youth, books for preaching and worship, books containing unique devotional practices Presbyterians can explore during Lent and a list of Lenten classics available for purchase, including Ann Weems’ “Kneeling in Jerusalem,” J. Barrie Shepherd’s “A Pilgrim’s Way” and Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s “Meditations on the Cross.”
Also available for free download are podcasts, a Good Friday service, practical ideas for helping youth explore the season of Lent, and more.
