Jesus Christ and the ‘Dividing Wall’: Race and God’s mission

Racial Equity & Women’s Intercultural Ministries co-sponsors lecture series

LOUISVILLE — The World Mission Initiative at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, with Racial Equity & Women’s Intercultural Ministries (RE&WIM) of the Presbyterian Mission Agency of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) as a sponsor, announces  its Race and Mission online event, featuring Rev. Brenda Salter-McNeil, Rev. Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove and Dr. David Campt.

The online series, titled “Jesus Christ and the ‘Dividing Wall:’ Race and God’s Mission,” is taking place at 7:30 pm. Eastern Time on Oct. 14, 21 and 28. It’s designed to help participants understand that both mission and race matter and will provide resources for individuals and congregations seeking to have deep conversations on race.

As the nation continues to grapple with the evil of racism, the online experience will enable Christians and churches to have the much-needed truthful conversation with one another on racial justice while engaging in God’s mission.

This Pittsburgh Theological Seminary series is a combination of the World Mission Initiative Conference and the institution’s annual McClure Lecture in World Mission and Evangelism. The virtual McClure Lectures and World Mission Month of Mission Series consist of online conversations that explore issues of racial justice with world-class speakers.

Featured speakers include Brenda Salter McNeil and Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove.

In addition to the lectures, there will be also pre-recorded workshops that can be accessed and used in the future by participating churches and individuals.

“Our nation and the church have to honestly and openly address the issue of race and the racial injustices levied against people of color throughout the history of the U.S.,” said the Rev. Dr. Rhashell Hunter, Director of RE&WIM. “Our ministry’s goal is to involve and engage the Church in its mission to become more diverse and inclusive of racial, ethnic, cultural and language groups, while equipping women for leadership in all ministries of the Church.“

“RE&WIM works to create an awareness of institutional racism in the church and an environment where people of color, new immigrants, and women can serve fully in ministry and leadership,” she said. “That’s why our partnership and co-sponsorship of this lecture series is critically important to the work we do in bringing awareness to racial injustices that continue to plague this country.”
