The Rev. Unzu Lee

The Rev. Unzu Lee, a minister of word and sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), is a regional liaison for East Asia. She helps implement regional strategies for God’s mission in East Asia by liaising between the PC(USA) and ecumenical partners such as the Hong Kong Christian Council (HKCC), the National Council of Churches in South Korea (NCCK), Korea Christian Federation in North Korea (KCF), and the World Council of Churches’ Ecumenical Forum for Korea (EFK).

East Asia is a very conflict-ridden region.

The Korean War that solidified the division between the North and South when an armistice was signed by China, North Korea and the U.S. on July 27, 1953, still has not ended. Since the 1980s, NCCK, KCF and EFK have worked tirelessly in partnership to bring about peace to the Korean peninsula through Christian witness. Unzu writes, “The conflict stemming from the division is not just geo-political; it’s very personal. As a Korean American, I’ve come to realize that much of the brokenness we experience stems from the Korean conflict.”

Hong Kong is another place where much conflict is felt since it was returned to China in 1997, and its situation is becoming increasingly conflicted as the tension between the U.S. and China is growing.
