LOUISVILLE — The Rev. Dr. Juan Ramón Mejías Ortiz, an ordained pastor of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and a professor of practical theology, has been selected as the new president of the Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico by the seminary’s Board of Directors.

“We trust that Dr. Mejías Ortiz will dedicate all his efforts, skills, and experiences to forge an innovative, creative, and deeply pastoral theological education that assertively meets the challenges of contemporary society and the needs of our congregations,” the seminary said in a news release. “We congratulate the new president. In him, the words of the prophet are fulfilled: ‘And I will give you shepherds according to my heart, who will feed you with knowledge and intelligence.’” (Jeremiah 3:15)

In addition to his teaching, Mejías Ortiz is director of the Institutional Accreditation Office and has served as associate professor of mathematics at Bayamon Central University and as a visiting professor at other academic institutions.

He has been a lecturer at the various denominational conventions and contributes as a writer for El Discípulo magazine.
