LOUISVILLE — Thanks to a partnership with Presbyterian Mission Agency’s Financial Aid for Service, Presbyterian Association of Musicians (PAM) has grants available for PC(USA) seminary students to attend an upcoming worship and leadership conference at Montreat June 23-28.
Kelly Abraham, PAM’s executive director, said the conference, ”Formation for Worship Leadership: A Week-Long Intensive Study,” will help seminarians transition to ministry by refining their gifts in worship leadership. It’s also designed to cultivate new liturgical leaders and scholars and help seminarians learn about emerging concerns among new pastors.
“This conference will provide excellent examples of international and intergenerational worship for seminarians who will soon be planning and leading worship in churches,” said Abraham.
The deadline to apply for the $1,250 Presbyterian Grants to attend the PAM conference is March 15. A selection committee will pick up to eight students for the awards, which will be announced on April 1.

One of last year’s Presbyterian Engagement-PAM grant recipients, Samantha Lowry from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, said she appreciated how practical the Formation for Worship Leadership conference was in the midst of intensive learning — even in the midst of intense learning.
“Every Christian liturgical season was represented in the course of one week,” she said. “As a pastor-in-training, I found myself observing the theological tone of the liturgy and music — making distinctions on how to feed a congregation spiritually across different holidays.”
