Westminster John Knox Press is excited to announce that Dr. Stacy Davis will be joining the editorial team in January 2024 as academic acquisitions editor. Davis is currently the Professor of Religious Studies and Theology at Saint Mary’s College in South Bend, Indiana.
Dr. Bridgett Green, vice president of publishing and Westminster John Knox Press editorial director, said, “I’m excited to have Stacy Davis join our academic editorial team. Her extensive career as a scholar and teacher, her experiences as a writer and editor as well as her collaborations in interdisciplinary studies will be instrumental in continuing WJK’s tradition of acquiring textbooks and monographs that showcase the depth and breadth of excellence in religious and theological fields of study. I am looking forward to having her as colleague and collaborator in growing our academic publishing program.”
Davis said, “I have had such a positive experience working with Westminster John Knox Press as a contributing editor for the forthcoming Westminster Study Bible. So when the position of academic acquisitions editor opened up, I decided to go for it. I enjoy being a part of a process that gives scholars, especially those from the global majority and women, the chance to get their ideas and visions in print. Witnessing that same enthusiasm and excitement from everyone I met at the Press made me feel like I would be in the right place.”
Emerson Powery, professor of biblical studies at Messiah University, said, “This is wonderful news! Stacy Davis is a seasoned biblical scholar whose own writings have attracted a wide variety of readers. Her wise counsel will graciously escort the next generation of WJKP authors.”
Davis holds a PhD in Hebrew Bible from the University of Notre Dame and an M.T.S. from Phillips Theological Seminary. Her areas of expertise include Hebrew Bible, rhetorical criticism, feminist biblical hermeneutics, African-American biblical hermeneutics, and ancient and medieval Jewish and Christian hermeneutics. She is currently an associate editor of the Journal of Biblical Literature. She is also a co-general editor of The Westminster Study Bible, due out in fall 2024, and a contributing editor to The Africana Bible.
