LOUISVILLE— Congregational Ministries Publishing (CMP) of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has released a new study, titled The Protestant Reformations, written by best-selling author Donald K. McKim.

This study, part of the Being Reformed: Faith Seeking Understanding curriculum, will open the door to reflecting on the Protestant Reformations and stimulate the desire for more church and individual study of this important topic; explore the backgrounds to the Reformations and then each of the four Reformation traditions; consider divisive theological issues focusing on just three of the important matters where each of the traditions has unique views; and finally, look at the Reformations today regarding their influences and legacies, as well as the Reformation in today’s churches. A glossary of terms is also included as a helpful resource.

“The 16th century was a monumental time in the history of the Christian church. It was marked by a series of reforming movements that challenged the theology and practices of the Roman Catholic church. Four Protestant ‘reformations’ took place during the century: Lutheran, Reformed, Anabaptist and the English Reformation,” McKim states. “This study examines each reformation to indicate its backgrounds, main theological ideas and impacts it produced. Reflections on Reformations Today conclude the study. These enable us to recognize influences and legacies that have gone before which help us reflect on visions of reformation in the churches for the future.”

McKim is an honorably retired teaching elder. He was the academic dean and professor of theology at Memphis Theological Seminary and professor of theology at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary.

Published by the Presbyterian Mission Agency’s Congregational Ministries Publishing, this new title may be ordered through pcusastore.com. Being Reformed: Faith Seeking Understanding is a series of biblically based mini-courses that provides adults with a foundational understanding of the Reformed faith. Each six-session study is written by well-known and respected scholars and features Scripture, prayer, in-depth commentary and questions for reflection. Each study addresses its subject from a Reformed theological perspective.
