Dr. Tammy Lane comes to the seminary from Emory University’s Candler School of Theology

Columbia Theological Seminary has named Dr. Tammy Lane as Director of Student Financial Services in the Office of Enrollment Management and Vocational Outreach (EMVO).
Lane has spent the past 12 years managing financial aid at various academic institutions, most recently as Associate Director of Financial Aid and Admissions at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology.
“Her references were glowing, all praising her professionalism, wisdom, creativity, and collegiality, yet they only reinforced what the Spirit made clear to Dean Natasha Patterson, Dean Ann Clay Adams, Katina James, Jonique Nicholas, Maci Sepp, Matt Rich, and me: that Dr. Tammy Lane was being sent to serve our students in this capacity for such a time as this, and we couldn’t be more honored to serve beside her,” said the Rev. Ann-Henley Nicholson, Columbia’s Vice President for Enrollment Management and Vocational Outreach.
“A student’s educational experience can occasionally be made or broken by their level of financial assistance understanding,” said Lane. “My purpose is to coach students as they navigate what many perceive to be one of the most challenging aspects of higher education. I’m excited for the opportunity to empower Columbia students about financial literacy and financial aid options by increasing financial aid programming, while strengthening Columbia’s robust financial assistance program. In addition, I’m thrilled to have a significant impact on Columbia students’ theological endeavors.”
Before her time at Candler, Lane supported students through their recruitment, admissions, and financial aid processes at Prairie View A&M University, where she also earned her doctorate in educational leadership. Lane earned her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education at Kennesaw State University and a master’s degree in higher education and student affairs from Kaplan University. Her research focuses on DEI concerns pertaining to women and men of color in academia, LGBTQ+ students, and financial access.
