Ruling Elder Elona Street-Stewart will take to a virtual pulpit on Wednesday

Elona Street-Stewart is Co-Moderator of the 224th General Assembly (2020)
CHICAGO — Ruling Elder Elona Street-Stewart, Co-Moderator of the 224th General Assembly (2020) of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the synod executive of the Synod of Lakes and Prairies, will preach online at 12:15 p.m. Eastern Time Wednesday as part of the Vine Deloria Jr. Theological Symposium.
Street-Stewart, a member of the Delaware Nanticoke people, has been engaged for four decade in grassroots and national advocacy on social equity, Indian education, family empowerment and public policy. She has posted many firsts in her life: the first Native American to be elected to an urban school board in Minnesota, the first Native American to be installed as a synod executive in the PC(USA), and the first Native co-moderator to be elected. She serves with the Rev. Gregory Bentley, her fellow Co-Moderator.

About the Vine Deloria Jr. Theological Symposium
In 2013, the Annual American Indian and Alaska Native Symposium at Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago was renamed in honor of Vine Deloria Jr., an alumnus of Augustana Seminary, Rock Island, Illinois, a predecessor school of LSTC. The symposium has been held in November each year since it began over 10 years ago. It has featured presentations, lectures, food and cultural activities. Past keynote speakers include Susan Kelly Power (Standing Rock Sioux), Rev. Dr. Gordon Straw (Brothertown Nation), Dr. Daniel Wildcat (Yuchi/Muskogee) and Prairie Rose Seminole (Three Affiliated Tribes of ND).
