As Stewardship Kaleidoscope 2024 opened in Portland, Oregon Sept. 23, attendees had probably seen the “Keep Portland Weird” slogan in several places. The annual conference is presented by the Presbyterian Church (USA) and Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
The Gospel writer Luke set out to provide an “orderly account” of the life of Jesus. Yet reading the story backwards yields insights we can appreciate even more today, said the Rev. Dr. Eric Barreto in the second plenary address at Stewardship Kaleidoscope on Sept. 24. The annual conference is presented by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
A prominent preacher and social justice activist, the Rev. Dr. Andrew Kukla, is scheduled to lead worship on the opening evening of the Stewardship Kaleidoscope Conference, when the popular event convenes on Monday, Sept. 23.
Adriana Ballard has joined the Presbyterian Foundation as the new Director of Investments and Assistant Vice President. She succeeds Anita Clemons, who retired from her position as Senior Vice President and Director of Investments.
When Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022, the Rev. Jan Dus was in Yemen, working at a hospital on a mission assignment for Doctors Without Borders. He knew immediately he needed to go home to the Czech Republic to try to mobilize help.
“Honestly, I had no idea,” Dus said in an interview recently. “I couldn’t imagine the war would last this long.”

Preparing for the departure of Rev. Dr. Lee Hinson-Hasty this summer, the Presbyterian Foundation has hired two skilled and connected pastors to head up Theological Education Funds Development.
The Rev. Bill Davis will join the Foundation as Senior Director of Theological Education Funds Development on June 29. The Rev. Zoë Garry will serve as Associate Director starting July 8.
Introduced as a “scholar, teacher, mother, ruling elder and an absolute delight of a human being,” a “Renaissance woman” who’s “wise and witty and grounded and visionary,” Dr. Jacqueline E. Lapsley, inaugurated earlier this month as the eighth president of Union Presbyterian Seminary, was the guest Wednesday on “Leading Theologically.”
Registration for the annual Stewardship Kaleidoscope Conference — featuring a roster of outstanding speakers and preachers — is now underway, with a June 30 early-bird registration deadline approaching for the Sept. 23-25 event to be held in Portland, Oregon.
Following eight years of successful service, the Rev. Dr. David Loleng was promoted to Vice President of Church Financial Literacy and Leadership and Stewardship Education at the Presbyterian Foundation in early April.
