R. Gustav Niebuhr, distinguished Presbyterian journalist and academic, dies at age 68

R. Gustav Niebuhr, a pioneering Presbyterian journalist and scholar whose many awards included the 2000 David Steele Distinguished Writer Award from the Presbyterian Writers Guild, died Oct. 20 at age 68 from long-term complications from Parkinson’s Disease. The PC(USA)’s Unification Commission learns more about how communications ministries will be combined

In a Sunday meeting that was a little hard for non-commissioners to follow because workgroup reports were kept private until the conclusion of the public portion of the Unification Commission’s online gathering, commissioners received a report on initial steps of unifying communications ministries of the Office of the General Assembly and Presbyterian Mission Agency.

This weekend, Westminster Presbyterian Church in Nashville celebrates 150 years of ministry

Westminster Presbyterian Church in Nashville, Tennessee has been celebrating 150 years of ministry this year, a celebration that continues following worship on Sunday with a luncheon, music and a brief program. Worship will include a special sermon by the church’s senior pastor and head of staff, the Rev. Dr. Donovan Drake, and a new anthem composed for the occasion by Philip WJ Stopford based on Psalm 78:1-7.

PC(USA) pastor in San Francisco garners one of five Jefferson Awards given last month during a ceremony in New York City

The Rev. Roland Gordon, whose length of service as the pastor of Ingleside Presbyterian Church in San Francisco is exceeded only by the care and inspiration he has provided to the youth of the neighborhood in which the church does ministry, is one of five recipients of Jefferson Awards from the organization Multiplying Good, which seeks to cultivate greatness through service to others. Last month, Gordon accepted the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Award for Outstanding Public Service Benefitting Local Communities.
