The two prayers below were written for the nation’s chaplains and health care workers serving on the frontlines of COVID-19. The author is the director of the Presbyterian Council for Chaplains and Military Personnel and is an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

The Rev. Darius Swann dies at age 95

The Rev. Darius Swann, the lead plaintiff in a landmark Supreme Court case, Swann v. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education, died March 8 at the age of 95.

Presbyterian Center closing to prevent spread of coronavirus

Each day the number of people infected with the coronavirus continues to rise across Kentucky, the U.S. and the world. To help ensure the well-being of staff in the Louisville offices and the surrounding community, leaders are closing the Presbyterian Center at 100 Witherspoon St., in Louisville, effective Friday, March 27.

Presbytery of New York City installs Ruling Elder Frances Thom, the body’s youngest-ever elected moderator

On Saturday, March 7, the eve of International Women’s Day, the Presbytery of New York City celebrated this year’s theme, “An equal world is an enabled world,” in a unique way: the installation of Ruling Elder Frances Thom and Ruling Elder Terri Youn to their one-year terms as, respectively, moderator and moderator-elect. Present for this historic occasion in the sanctuary of Riverdale Presbyterian Church in The Bronx was the Rev. Cindy Kohlmann, Co-Moderator of the 223rd General Assembly.

Board of Pensions President suspends leave

On February 11, the Board of Pensions announced that its President, the Rev. Frank Clark Spencer, had been granted a travel leave for March 11-April 24, 2020. Due to the current situation, Spencer returned to work, effective March 19.
