LOUISVILLE – The Executive Committee of the Presbyterian Mission Agency Board (PMAB) is recommending that the Board suspend its search for a new Presbyterian Mission Agency (PMA) executive director. Acting on a suggestion by the Executive Director Search Committee, the Executive Committee—meeting in Chicago for its annual retreat—recommended naming a new search committee next spring.
The Executive Committee recommended that the full Board dismiss the search committee “with gratitude” and direct the Personnel/Nominating Committee to bring a recommendation for a slate of members for a new search committee to the spring 2017 Board meeting.
“With recent action by the General Assembly approving the creation of an Administrative Commission, a Vision 2020 team and the regularly scheduled All Agency Review, we think it would be wise to delay our search until the future role of the PMA within the national church comes into clearer focus,” said Ken Godshall, the newly installed chair of the PMAB. “We believe doing so will provide greater clarity about the executive director position and the needs of the agency moving forward.”
A full Board meeting will be held via conference call in the next few weeks to discuss the executive director search and to vote on Executive Committee recommendations.
The Executive Committee consists of 11 elected members, including Board officers, committee chairs and others chosen for representation and experience. The Executive Committee makes recommendations for the consideration of the full Board and acts on behalf of the full Board between meetings.
Tony De La Rosa was named interim executive director of the Presbyterian Mission Agency in September. He began serving the PMA on December 1, 2015.
The executive director of the Mission Agency must be confirmed by the General Assembly, which meets every two years. The executive director typically serves a four-year term, which may be renewed.
