Minute for Mission:

Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary

April 3, 2016

We say it often, but perhaps not often enough: Our church needs creative, energetic, theologically well-educated ministers and church leaders to answer God’s call to serve in a diverse and often polarized world.

Our faculty is hard at work rethinking the already great theological education that Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary provides in light of the changing needs of church and society. They are asking themselves the fundamental question of “Why” we teach as we rededicate ourselves to the great ends of the church and the world.

At the beginning of the 2015–2016 academic year, we liberated our master’s-level students from the burden of tuition debt so they can go wherever God calls them. Far too long has seminary debt held captive the hopes and dreams of dedicated graduates and stymied the best efforts for renewal among congregations and a variety of other ministries.

Those who value a thinking faith, a reflective faith, and a faith that holds heart and head together cannot afford to jettison quality theological education. Our promise to the church is to provide a fertile ground from which the roots of ministry can grow.
