LOUISVILLE – Funds are available for one-time awards in 2018 to be used for Native American leadership development. The Native American Leadership Fund Award was created by action of the Presbyterian Mission Agency Board.
In May 2018, a call for proposals was issued with an invitation for organizations and groups to submit a proposal for grants. The designated funds are to be used for education and/or leadership development of Native American Presbyterian leaders or in Native American Presbyterian organizations and communities.
Tim McCallister, Associate for Mission Program Grants & Racial Ethnic Schools and Colleges, said: “These grants are being offered by the Presbyterian Mission Agency to encourage pioneers, risk-takers and trailblazers. We are looking for proposals that are creative and inventive. We need to support people who are not afraid to fail, and church cultures that will encourage people to take risks to find new ways to succeed.”
“We hope to receive proposals from organizations and groups seeking to impact communities and opportunities for Native Americans,” said Rhashell Hunter, director of Racial Ethnic & Women’s Ministries. “This grant is designed to encourage the birth of new proposals by organizations and groups, rather than to support existing leadership development opportunities and ministries. We are dreaming big and hoping that by providing leadership opportunities through this award, Native American communities will be impacted and strengthened,” Hunter said.
To qualify for consideration organizations must submit a written grant application and proposal. The deadline for submission is June 29, 2018. Award recipients will be selected and funds will be disbursed later in 2018.
Proposals will be reviewed by a staff team in the Racial Ethnic & Women’s Ministries area. Following the awarding of the grant, the organization must submit a report to Racial Ethnic & Women’s Ministries detailing how the grant was used.
“It is our hope that with this support, a lack of resources will not be an obstacle for people with vision to develop ministries and opportunities in Native American communities,” McCallister concluded.
