Presbyterian World Mission pays tribute to Mulumba Musumba Mukundi

Dr. Mulumba Musumba Mukundi, general secretary of the Presbyterian Church of Congo (CPC) and rector of the Sheppards & Lapsley Presbyterian University of Congo. Research shows gap in parents’ and pastors’ objectives for youth ministry

The report, “Pastors and Parents Differ on Youth Ministry Goals,” is derived from the comprehensive State of Youth Ministry study released last November in cooperation with youth ministry resource organizations Youth Specialties and YouthWorks. The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), A Corporation, has teamed with the Insurance Board and Praesidium to help PC(USA) church councils and church members prevent child sexual abuse. The partnership has launched a toll-free Abuse Prevention Helpline (866-607-SAFE) to help keep predators away from children. Read more »

Presbytery of Philadelphia celebrates 300th anniversary

The Presbytery of Philadelphia is celebrating its 300th anniversary in 2017 with an ambitious goal: raising $300,000 to invest in community projects and outreach. The presbytery is also observing the milestone with an Oct. 7 worship event and a commemorative devotional, “300 Days for 300 Years,” as it strives to be a “people born in faith, rooted in grace and answering God’s call in Jesus Christ to live into hope.” Read more »

Funding dreams

An international task force from the Presbyterian Committee on the Self-Development of People (SDOP) recently returned from a visit to Belize, where it met with groups that have received funding to become more self-sustaining. SDOP selected Belize as a focus country in 2010 because of its continued struggle with extreme poverty. Read more »

‘Living, Dying, Rising’ conference leader spotlight: Abby King-Kaiser

The Rev. Abby King-Kaiser, associate director of the Dorothy Day Center for Faith and Justice at Xavier University in Cincinnati, will serve as worship leader and coordinator for “Living, Dying, Rising,” the 2017 national gathering for 1001 New Worshiping Communities. “Living, Dying, Rising” will be held Aug. 7–10 at the TradeWinds Island Grand Resort in St. Pete Beach, Florida. The 2017 national gathering will outline the story of the life of Christ and the life of the church. Read more »
