Signs are hopeful for construction of peace in Colombia

A peace accord ratified between the Colombian government and the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) guerrilla group in late 2016 has been in the process of implementation this year, and former guerrilla combatants have settled in 25 “transitional normalization zones” around the country. The process of transitioning into civilian life has included educational programs and the laying down of arms through a three-part handover to the United Nations. The arms handover is now 100 percent — a hopeful sign for the construction of peace in Colombia. Read more »

National Black Presbyterian Caucus gathers in Detroit for 43rd biennial convention

Members of the National Black Presbyterian Caucus (NBPC) gathered in Detroit on July 13–15 for the 43rd biennial convention. The event offered something for everyone but made sure to offer topics of interest to youth and young adults. The convention provided an opportunity for NBPC members to meet with the Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson II, Stated Clerk for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and Co-Moderator T. Denise Anderson. Read more »

Se revive la esperanza en una comunidad Hispano/Latina inundada

La reconstrucción después de la tormenta Sandy ha sido lenta para algunas personas en Nueva Jersey, especialmente las más desfavorecidas. Misión Nueva Vida ha trabajado desde 2015 para ayudar a las personas que viven en el Parque Metropolitano de Casas Móviles, en Moonachie, donde las inundaciones continúan dañando casas de familias inmigrantes hispano-latinas, y donde hace mucha falta el dinero. Tres casas móviles han sido arregladoa y levantadas, y pronto se completará una cuarta. Read more »
