‘Dust Bowl bad’: wildfires, drought take toll on Montana communities

“It’s bad, Dust Bowl bad.” That’s how Kathy Goodrich, co-general presbyter of Yellowstone Presbytery, describes the impact of recent Montana wildfires. Hot, dry conditions proved costly for communities across the state as wildfires spread. As of mid-August, more than 270,000 acres had burned, and much of that was grazing land, said Goodrich. “Some ranches, already drought-stricken, are in serious jeopardy,” she added. Read more »

An emotional goodbye to years of tradition

Church planters in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) recently held their final conference at the TradeWinds Island Grand Resort. They’ve been coming to St. Pete Beach, Florida, since 2003. To honor the memories of the place that has become “holy ground” for them, the “Living, Dying, Rising” 1001 New Worshiping Communities (1001 NWC) conference planning team organized a celebration on their last night for everyone — including the TradeWinds staff. They help global partners such as churches and nongovernmental organizations address issues of migration and human trafficking.
