The final day of the NEXT Church 2018 gathering started with a keynote presentation by Dr. Jonathan L. Walton, Harvard University Plummer Professor of Christian Morals and the Pusey Minister at the Memorial Church of Harvard University. The second day of the NEXT Church 2018 gathering in Baltimore began with a worship service focusing on “testimonies of death and dying.” Over 675 participants have gathered for the annual conference of Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) members, pastors and those in affiliated ministries under the theme of “The Desert in Bloom: Living, Dying, and Rising in a Wilderness Church.” Read more »

Katie Cannon, Doug Oldenburg to be honored at PC(USA) General Assembly

The Committee on Theological Education and the Theological Education Fund are honoring two distinguished leaders in theological education at the 2018 General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) meeting in St. Louis. This year’s honorees are Dr. Katie Geneva Cannon, professor of theology and ethics at Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, Virginia, and Douglas Oldenburg, former President of Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia and a former General Assembly moderator. Presbyterian Youth Workers encouraged to take Sabbath Day

The Presbyterian Youth Workers Association, in partnership with Presbyterian Mission’s Ministries with Youth, wanted to do something about burnout. Together, they are hosting the first-ever Youth Worker Sabbath Day on Thursday, April 5. Currently, Sabbath group hosts are forming local groups across the country where youth workers can engage in Sabbath practices together. Read more »
